Supported Independent Living is funded by the NDIS and provides help or supervision for daily tasks to assist people in living independently while developing everyday skills. It is designed for individuals with high support needs who need daily help or supervision to live on their own. This service includes paid personal support and customized care, often in shared living settings.
What is included in SIL?
The type and level of support you receive from PRAXIS SA will depend on your unique needs, supported living goals, and daily requirements. We will work with you to provide the support necessary for independent living while keeping your aspirations in mind.
Cooking and meal prep
Cleaning and laundry
Personal care tasks like showering and dressing
Medication administration
Using public transport
Assistance with medical appointments
Behaviour support and social skills development
Support for community activities (both regular and occasional)
PRAXIS SA can also help you build these skills through Capacity Building. This will enable you to handle more daily tasks on your own and live more independently.
What will my living situation be like with SIL?
Supported Independent Living often means living in a shared home, usually with 4 to 5 people. SIL can also be used if you live alone, though other NDIS services might be more suitable in that case. SIL is also an option for long-term respite care for people with disabilities.
